Establishment of Women Resource Center

ISLAMABAD, October 12, 2017: National Commission on the Status of Women (NCSW), and National Library of Pakistan, National History and Literary Heritage Division, on Thursday entered into a joint venture for the establishment of National Women Resource Centre to be located in National Library of Pakistan (NLP).
In this regard, a letter of agreement was signed between NCSW and National History and Literary Heritage Division at National History and Literary Heritage Division head office, Islamabad. The National Women Resource Centre will cater to the reading, references and information needs of men, women, policy makers, students, researchers and journalists. The signing ceremony was attended by Mr. Irfan Siddiqi, Advisor to Prime Minister on National History and Literary Heritage, Ms. Khawar Mumtaz, Chairperson National Commission on the Status of Women, Women Parliamentarians, prominent literary figures, Mr. Aamir Hassan, Secretary National History and Literary Heritage Division, Ms Samina A Hassan, Secretary NCSW, Members of NCSW, and other senior officials of the National History and Literary Heritage Division and National Commission on the Status of Women. Speaking on this occasion, Mr. Irfan Siddiqi, Advisor to Prime Minister on National History and Literary Heritage stressed the need of more such collaboration between different government departments. He announced that NCSW could use the facilities available at National Library of Pakistan free of cost and proposed arranging free transport for women who want to visit the library.
Ms. Khawar Mumtaz, Chairperson NCSW, thanked Advisor to Prime Minister on National History and Literary Heritage and expressed hope that the Women Resource Centre would provide a platform to consolidate information available on women issues in different government departments, universities, research organisations and individuals.
She said that one of the major functions of NCSW is to sponsor and steer research on women related issues and gender studies. “The National Women Resource Centre is part of NCSW’s efforts to pursue the goal of steering and promoting research on women related issues in line with its mandate.
NCSW is a statutory body to combat discrimination against women with the objective of promoting social, economic, political and legal rights of women as guaranteed in the Constitution of Pakistan and in accordance with its international commitments.

National Commission on the Status of Women is pleased to announce its first NCSW Literary Award 2018. The purpose of the Award is to encourage Pakistani women writers promoting women’s rights through their creative writings.
